sigh. sometimes I wonder if my fingers are as klutzy as I imagine them to be. watched 21 grams today. wanted to catch sean penn in action. afterall he did just win the golden globe. but for his performance in mystic river. however I remember reading an article which thought his performance in MR was a tad OTT? and that he made a better performance in his other movie (I’m suspecting it’s 21G – there’s just too many movies at the moment.)
thought 21G was a pretty good film. it was thought provoking. at least it was for me. like the devoutness of del Toro’s character (Jack, if I’m not wrong). I was just discussing about the existence of god with a friend of mine just the day before. about how I don’t believe in god.
well I believe in the great cosmic powers. I believe in fate.
but I don’t believe in this personified version of what I feel is really the great cosmic powers - god
I don’t really believe in “condemnation in hell” but I believe what comes around goes around (I guess that’s kind of like karma)
oh dear. this is turning into a piece on my view on religion. but I’m really just trying to discuss the movie 21G. ok. back to 21G.
so, 21G kind of dabbled in religion. and well, it interests me. I would like to find out a bit more about scientology, but I think I need to do some work tonight. hmmm.
and anyway, the movie. it’s kind of hard to follow in the beginning as the movie isn’t shown in chronological order. it’ll take viewers some time to figure out that things are a bit messed up. but I guess that’s pretty much the way we think and remember. all the stuff in our brains aren’t exactly in chronological order. plus this makes the movie more exciting. and unexpected.
I did find it a little slow at times, but it could really be due to my weak bladder and that I’m still battling with my warped sleeping habits (I caught the earliest show, 1130. quite an amazing feat that I managed to change my bank passbook BEFORE catching the movie. I was actually awake in the morning.. less than 5% of the theatre was occupied. but it was kind of a big theatre. but I think there were less than 20 audience members.)
I can’t really comment much about the acting since I’m not really such a perceptive viewer. I can usually recognise bad acting. but it has to be REALLY bad acting. I’m really not observant and stuff like that. but I guess good acting to me would be acting that doesn’t make one cringe. acting that can actually get one to empathise with the character, get one to feel for the character. but I’m pretty gullible. so..
hope I can catch irreversible next week. and I’ll have mystic river to catch after my next interim. “P. I’m sleepy… hey…. that’s a good sign…
